"Ayumi" — 歩み — is a Japanese word that means "walking forward with intention." It's the same feeling you get when you slow down your morning routine, take a breath, and do something that's genuinely good for you. That's what we built this brand around.
Ayumi Wellness began with a simple frustration: the matcha available in India — in supermarkets, cafés, and online marketplaces — was consistently disappointing. Bright green packaging, hollow claims, and a bitter, grainy powder that tasted nothing like what we'd experienced in Japan. Most of it was culinary grade at best, sold at ceremonial grade prices.
So we went to the source. Shizuoka, Japan — the birthplace of Japanese matcha culture, and still its most celebrated growing region. We spent time understanding the difference between first-harvest shade-grown leaves and standard tea-garden output. We spoke with farmers about stone grinding versus blade grinding, and why it matters to the amino acids and catechins in the final powder. We tasted dozens of matchas side by side.
The result of that research is every pouch of Ayumi Ceremonial Matcha you open. We source exclusively first-harvest leaves from Shizuoka. We insist on stone grinding because it preserves what makes ceremonial matcha worth drinking. We seal immediately after grinding in UV-protected matte packaging to protect the freshness that took eight months to grow.
We're not here to sell you wellness as an aesthetic. We're here to give you access to a genuinely superior product — the one that Japan's tea masters have been drinking for centuries — at a price that makes a daily ritual possible.
Every bag we send out comes with a free 500ml glass set, because the right vessel is part of the ritual. We want your first cup to be exactly what it should be.
